In Thursday’s Dominion Post, the front page led with a painting of Jesus as an All Black. Here is the article I found myself thinking ‘Lighten up, Sally’, but also found that I really couldn’t lighten up completely. Portraying Jesus’ incarnation as a celebrity, a representative of national pride and greatness didn’t, and doesn’t sit well with me. What do you think? And if you do think I should lighten up a bit, what position do you think Jesus would play?

The gospel reading this week has the Pharisees and Scribes asking Jesus where his authority comes from. What does this painting suggest about that? Where does Jesus’ authority come from? How do we know?
