This week our Sunday service we celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism. We also, fortuitously perhaps, read a famous passage from Paul’s letter to the Galatians. It is Galatians 3:23 – 29. Here is part of it:
26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

I got to thinking about the divisions that there are in our society, the divisions we create and exacerbate among ourselves. I vaguely remembered an exercise called ‘Blue eyes – brown eyes’ in which a teacher divided her class into two groups, those with blue eyes and those with brown eyes. She did this to make real the experience of discrimination – in response to the assassination of Martin Luther King.
I googled it (of course) and found a gold mine of material including the original Frontline documentary on the exercise and many follow up responses to the exercise. Even just watching the exercise was confronting and challenging and made a huge impact on me. So I am posting the links here .
